So, when you are married over 70 years, do you think a hospital will call your great niece and ask her to come referee a domestic dispute involving a cane, a wheelchair, and a bed that you get zipped up in at night? Usually, they call when he won’t calm down and Aunt Bea isn’t there……………ususally I go until Aunt Bea can get there…………usually John Hawk loses yet another day of his young life to the confines of St Vincent where he has lots of questions about Mary and why she looks out to the fence at the back of Academy Sports………….One time the snow all melted away while we saw to a situation and John’s reply was “Well I thought it was gonna be dark when we left, so no snow’s bad but at least there’s daylight when we leave the place…………..” God Bless John, he’s a great kid.
This time………I called my brother…………a fairly new member of the Argenta community where he is like Norm from Cheers and can walk home safely………he got to hear the redition of TAMMY”S SONG D-I-V-O-R-C-E………………
Uncle Tom’s been in the hospital since FEB 22 and she’s been with him 24/7 since ………over a week and perhaps too long…….even for being married 70 almost 71 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He’s a spry 93 and still drove every weekday to the Hays center to walk, to church on Sunday and to Kroger’s on McCain……just a warning…….. She’s a more demur 90 and still handles everything in their lives just fine………and handles Aunt Jewell’s bills as well……..Aunt Jewell is the quintisetial old maid school teacher, her older sister who is over 100 and looking at 101 soon……………. People say………..oh, you’re so sweet to help with them……..longevity is in the family, someone will re-pay you……………I sigh and say thank you and for shock value I tell some of them, I’m adopted and they’re killing me!!!!!!!!! Side note, I am adopted and longevity is not among the biological family’s traits……sigh, smile
So, Switzerland cannot come soon enough…………Wed before you are up I’d bet…………..they have wonderful church friends and hey, that’s a blessing I can say I share with them……………….. I have wonderful friends and fellow Christ followers at FN.
Pray for everyone’s health on a serious note and just for fun picture the nurses as they deal with these wonderful Christian examples that have long been a part of my life.
Oh, and they decided that divorce comes off the table…………thankfully……………….
And she’s sweet like Andy’s Aunt Bea………………..
PS can anyone tell me how to get spell check to work on this blog thing???

Sharon:
Apologies for getting to this post a month after the fact.
We learn to appreciate so much when we care for our elders as we once had to care for our children. All blessings to you and yours as love grows in the face of health that fails.
P.S.: Spell check is the little box with the ABC and checkmark in the “Visual” edit window’s toolbar. When you click the box, it turns the spell check on or off. When it’s on, suspect words get a red line under them. You have to fix them yourself — it doesn’t offer you possible substitutions. Once spell check is turned on, it stays on until you turn it off. So, turn it on when you start a post and red underlines will mark every suspect spelling as you go.
P.P.S.: I’m adopted, too, and it’s wonderful to have two strong families, one with the strength to let you go and one with the strength to take you in.
Love to all,
Bruce
